WordPress FireFox extension

I often want to know how many hits my wordpress blog has had without loading the stats page, mainly so I can compete with a fellow blogger who sits opposite me in the office 😛

So I made the MMD WordPress FireFox extension, install it and you get a tiny status bar panel that shows your current daily hits (for multiple blogs). You can right click the panel and hit “View Stats Details” and FireFox will happily take you to your normal stats page on WordPress.com

MMD WordPress Extension

To Install:

The MMD WordPress FireFox has been reviewed by Mozilla and approved for general public consumption so you can download and install it directly from the main FireFox addons website and get automatic updates.

For information on the latest version please see the changelog

You can install it here – please add a review!

Features:

  • Supports multiple wordpress.com blogs
  • Provides quick access to blog stats, blog view and new post pages

  2. so it works only on wordpress.com? And only for one blog, the first you registered?

    August 6, 2008 at 12:22 am

    • It now supports multiple blogs

  3. The Future: I would like to see stats for the other blogs in the same wordpress.com account, and maybe yesterdays…

    August 6, 2008 at 12:25 am

  4. That’s right, only works for one blog at the moment (the first). If there’s an interest in it working for multiple then I can work on that.

It gets the stats from m.wordpress.com so adding in yesterdays is nice and easy. Multiple blogs is possible, although m.wordpress.com has a bug in terms of displaying the names of multiple blogs for me :S I’ll work on multiple blogs for the next version… where would you want to see yesterday’s stats? I had thought about an up or down marker (today vs. yesterday) which could have yesterdays count on a tooltip….

    Thank you!

I installed it, but since I have more than one blog, I can’t see all of them. How do I change it to another blog or see all of them?

My blogs: http://almmmm.wordpress.com (ALM and CM)
http://tgefen.wordpress.com (ALM and CM – Hebrew)

    Thanks.

    November 30, 2008 at 10:54 am

  32. Hi yarodin, if you set your account details in the options it will automatically look up the blog hit count when the browser starts 🙂

    November 30, 2008 at 7:57 pm

  33. Hi Tamir, at the moment the extension only checks up on your first blog – multiple blogs will be supported in the next version though! Thanks for checking it out.

Nice idea – shame about the admob spyware!

    January 4, 2009 at 12:37 pm

  36. At smog, I assure you there’s no spyware involved in my code, the only reason admob shows up in the status bar is because wordpress.com use it for mobile ad stuff or you have some other infection – there’s no spyware in this extension

    January 5, 2009 at 1:49 am

  37. A little further investigation shows that the admob reference is indeed caused by wordpress.com

This extension works by reading the mobile wordpress web page at http://m.wordpress.com/ which (if you look at the source) includes a reference to admob at the bottom which is a mobile web ad platform of some kind but isn’t spyware as far as I can see. Either way, this is a wordpress.com issue and nothing to do with the MMD WordPress FireFox extension 🙂

Thanks for your job, its great!:)

    January 15, 2009 at 6:14 am

    • Thanks for the feedback, I’m going to look into making this a bit more generic (supporting multiple blogs, supporting blogs not on wp.com) so hopefully I will get this done 🙂

    Hi there Mike,
I know this is kinda old but your little plugin was soooo cool and useful I was wondering if you were planning to develop one that works for firefox 3.6.
Ever since I upgraded I had to give up the wonderful little WP icon at the bottom of my browser!
    Thanks a lot

    February 3, 2010 at 2:59 pm

    • Thanks 🙂

I’ve tested it with FF 3.6 and upgraded the listing at addons.mozilla.org so all should be good for you to keep on using it!
You might need to re-install it from: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/8395/

    September 2, 2011 at 6:40 pm

    • Seems fine on my 6.0.1 I’ll check the mozilla listing…
It goes into your status bar (or addon bar these days) so if you have that hidden you might not see the extension. In the next version I’m planning on making it more customizable.

    Hello,

Very nice FF addon. Is it possible to disable automatic stats checking and do it manually?

    Thank you

    October 5, 2011 at 8:20 am

    • Hi Horia, not directly in the current version but I’ll do that for the next version (next week). For now, set the lookup interval in the Options screen to 30mins. You can lookup manually from the menu.

      Cheers,

      Mike.

      October 5, 2011 at 8:28 pm

    • In developing this I’ve introduced a bug in the development version and intend to make it a bit more apple mac friendly so it’ll pass approval. So I won’t be able to release it this week, but please bear with me, it’ll be in the next update!

      October 11, 2011 at 9:10 pm

    • I’ve uploaded v2.3 which has this feature to addons.mozilla.org but it’ll take a while to get reviewed and added to the public listing or you can install it directly from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/mmd-wordpresscom-extension/versions/?page=1#version-2.3

      October 24, 2011 at 3:49 pm

Hi Mike and thanks a lot for this plugin! seems very useful.

However, under firefox 9.01 in ubuntu 10.04 gnome environment I’m not able to make it work. When I click the button “account setup” in preferences nothing happens.

Is it a known bug or just incompatible with my current mozilla/linux versions?
    thanx again!

    January 28, 2012 at 1:17 pm

    • Νέστορας

Nevermind, it works if you edit the account setup from the small icon on the addons bar. Works like a charm Mike! Cheers!

      January 28, 2012 at 1:33 pm

      • Glad you found a fix. That’s the same version of FF I use on Ubuntu and I’ve managed to recreate the bug when trying to set account details from the addons tab in FireFox. Thanks for letting me know, I’ll get it fixed for the next version 🙂 In the meantime as you said, you can access it from the menu down the bottom.

        January 30, 2012 at 2:58 pm

  75. Just pushed version 2.5 through the main firefox addon site – this verison fixes a couple of layout bugs in the password dialog and works with the new wordpress stats pages

    March 5, 2012 at 12:18 pm

  76. WordPress.com just changed the structure of the stats information breaking the current live version (2.5). I’ve developed a fix and put v2.6 into the FireFox review process but it’ll be a few days until it goes live through the firefox update site. Sorry for the inconvenience.

            • Ok, but my extension doesn’t have an orange drop down button, or display the number of comments – that bit’s just normal wordpress.

      December 20, 2012 at 4:47 pm
